“For me, creating art opens a door into a different sense of space and time. It’s like being suspended in a tank of water – floating, listening to my breath, going inward yet still hearing the birds outside my studio. It’s a solitude that feels natural. There needs to be chunks of alone time to push paint around, play with colors and textures, or just stare at the piece asking it to reveal itself. Eventually, the color and shapes fall into place and all seems right with the world. When I am ready to sign my name, then I know the painting is done. A lot gets resolved in my life through the iterative act of composing and completing, or leaving a piece that isn’t working.”
