Artist Bio

Michael Longhofer’s paintings, ranging from cityscapes, distortions and contemplative figure studies, are a chronicle of both places he has seen or imagined. His contemporary realistic approach draws on some painterly tradition, while also harnessing modern techniques as well.

Longhofer’s somewhat modern scenes are at once familiar yet foreign. Some are places the viewer recognizes while others have a dream-like quality. Perspective and depth draw the viewer into the piece. Buildings and figures are painted with intense contrast. Colors burst out of the canvas with an otherworldly light. The skies are beautiful and mysterious. Michael’s contemporary abstracts are painted with layers of colors that puddle up like rain on glass. This artist has decided to incorporate new techniques and merge the abstract into reality. A new piece “Midnight Metro” is an example of his new style.

MichaeL Longhofer earned a B.F.A. from the Laguna College of Art and Design. He currently resides in Dallas, Texas showing at Art 251 and Fusion Galleries. Michael has painted commissioned cityscapes, landscapes and portraits. Past clients include: American Express, Baylor Heath Care and volunteer artwork for Fellowship Church. He also teaches at the Canvas, in Arlington, artist workshops and private “one on one” art lessons.

“The subject matter of my paintings ranges from contemporary cityscapes and landscapes to contemplative figure studies. They are a chronicle of both my life experience and my imagination. My style of painting is realism and my technique has been called “photo-impressionistic”. Perspective, depth and value are key components of my work, as well as the use of color to create the illusion of light to set the mood of the piece.” – Michael Longhofer

Michael Longhofer currently resides in Dallas, Texas, showing at fine art galleries and doing commissioned works, including portraits. Michael also paints murals and custom hand-painted art boxes.

Comments From Advisory Board

  • “With an uncanny ability to capture atmospheric conditions, Longhofer’s paintings seem strangely familiar and evoke our senses. His Impressionistic work triggers our audible imagination as we hear virtual splashes, horns honking and smell the fresh scents associated with a sudden rainstorm. His masterful technique of producing reflected light, whether on wet streets, or through a pane of glass, leaves the viewer energized through his beautiful shifts of color and texture.”
